iPHONE 5 REVIEW

The hyped of every leaked photo led to higher than ever levels of expectation over the iPhone 5 features. The iPhone 5 price was predictably high and continues to be so, so consumers will need to bear that in mind too when looking for their next smartphone.

You'll obviously see the change in height too – the iPhone 5 stands 123.8mm tall to allow for the larger 4-inch screen but  it doesn't beat the sheer beauty of the HTC One S, with its micro-arc oxidised back and rounded lines, but it's well-set in second place.

Everyone knows it's lighter and slimmer. Some love it, some think it makes it feel cheap. I carry my phone when I go walking, or running. I think the favorite thing for me about the new screen is that it can display an extra row of icons, which means you can have more on one screen. I like to keep everything fitting on one page right there for me to access. The screen is brighter, and color saturation is noticeably better, blacks are blacker, colors are more rich. The phone has LTE which means it will connect to networks faster, and it has 3 microphones, and noise canceling for better audio. The iPhone 5 supports more networks all over the world.

Apple has gone for a more advanced form of antenna here, meaning the days of lost signal are gone, and generally increasing the power of your call connection and GPS lock on too.

Drawbacks:

  • Screen is smaller than the competing phones
  • No SD card slot for expanding storage
  • Camera not equal to some of the other top phones
  • Speakers pointing down is not a good design
  • Apple Maps still has issues
  • Battery life could be better
  • Also iOS does not have a lot of the software features that the new Android versions have.
  • Again the same tradition colours like black and white
